It's not all black and white

This weeks theme  for MMM is '' It's not all black and white''. Well this was quite a challenge for me, since my work is all about colour and lots of it!! Nothing in my house is white! not a single wall. Well Daisy is mostly white but even she has a patch of colour on her! lol.  I even dream in colour.....
As for black..ok I love black. I went through a period in my life that I only wore black. just black! My work had so much colour in it that I couldn't stand wearing it as well. Artists are so weird sometimes!!

This painting pretty much reflects how I was feeling this past week...a bit lost, confused, frustrated, angry! and all these emotions were making me feel even angrier for feeling this way!! you know what I mean? I hate finding myself in this position!!  when you're looking for answers or signs and others are not willing to give, because they are afraid to admit certain things. Ok, are you confused with what I'm saying? because I am too!! lol   see what I mean? Welcome to my world!!
At this point I'd like to say sorry to my daughter Alex for lashing out at her all week and being mean to her. What's strange though, is that she didn't react to all this in her usual way (being even  meaner)....hmmmm
Anyway, this is a brand new week, Spring is almost here, the almond trees are in bloom and the lemon trees are full of buds about to open and life brings us unexpected beautiful things and people in our lives. (How I wish I could be a writer....I envy people who can express themselves naturally and not struggle like I am right now)
Ok! back to the canvas now!!  With lots and lots of RED!! Have a great week my friend.
oopps almost forgot to post my painting!! ....ooohhh  spring....

  1. Your struggle with writing isn't at all apparent to me, one of your readers. I admire your searing honesty and your great (if a bit disturbing!) artwork.

  2. Hey - its there in all of us. And, as a writer, I would like you to know that I struggle to be understood too. I like your piece. Lori from sketchbook.

  4. I love that we can use art to express our feelings--and I can see it in this piece from what you described--we've all had those times (I hate them!!) I agree with you, I wish I was a writer, sometimes.

  5. Hi there!
I'm sorry you had a tough week - I agree that you were able to bring it about beautifully in your work - can't wait to see what comes after this piece devoid of color . . . Wonderful, Kristin xo

  6. Hello beautiful woman! I adore your expression of your feelings even though you feel as if they aren't uniformed and are rushing out of you. That's your writing style and that's just fantastic. Also, love the painting. I like the whole black & white thing w/ the red heart, or just a red something in it. It's awesome. your numbers crack me up - I've had approx. 2349823904823 phone numbers in my life - but, I've never thought to use them in my art. xox - T

  8. As an (ahem) older person, the greatest joy in my life now is when my adult daughter who has a 12 year old daughter says to me "Mum, I don't know how you put up with me when I was 12 and now I am being paid back". We get through it. Somehow.
Your black and white picture is very mysterious. I love the ghostly trees, the all-seeing eye and the hand reached out for something, but what? Probably what you are reaching out for.
    Fantastic artwork.

  11. Your painting is so wonderful and fortunately life is not just black or white, life goes up and down, I also hate the black days, but love the white with a touch of color.

  12. Joanna, your black and white (with a splash of red) art this week is so expressive of how you were feeling. Isn't it freeing to be able to put down on paper or canvas those emotions? In the meanwhile you have come up with a very well laid out and beautiful piece. I know there isn't a mother anywhere that hasn't said or done something they wish had not happened. It may not be any solace to you, but I know of times my own mother said things she would have been better off just thinking, not expressing aloud.

  13. Art heals, that's what we can hope for. Having an outlet for our feelings, even if no one gets it, is what our art can be for. It's a very strong piece. Sending lots of hugs your way in this 'growing' period.

  14. This is such an expressive piece! You have managed to portray all of the feelings in this painting - such a gift; and you do pretty well with words too. Conflicts within our personal relationships are the hardest work we have to do, hang in there. Your description of spring in your part of the world sounds delightful and hopefully new and wonderful things will come with it. Cheers!

  15. What a great piece! Very bold!! I find art very therapuetic at times, and hopefully working on this piece helped you feel a bit better this week too? Here is to a happier week ahead :0) take care!!

  20. This is an excellent design. The white offers such a stark contrast to the background that the trees are even more beautiful.
